DX & IOTA
SWL DXing & IOTA hunting
What is SWL DXing?
In this case, SWL DXing means receiving to amateur radio stations over extended distances on the amateur radio shortwave bands.
DX stands for “distance” or “distant,” and DXing involves stations in other continents.
Remember that DXing is not only about receiving radio contacts but also about enjoying the challenges and rewards of long-distance reception in the amateur radio community.
What is IOTA?
Islands On The Air (IOTA) is an amateur radio program that encourages SWL to listen contacts of amateur radio stations located on islands around the world.
A founder of the IOTA award program was a famous british shortwave listener Geoff Watts, BRS-3129 (SK 1994). He elected to the CQ DX Hall of Fame in 1977, the only non-licenced amateur ever to be honoured.
